Miller'sSeniorLiving_Suzuki Music Bowing 2018The month of December at Miller’s Assisted Living is off to a fine start with a violin recital by the violin students from the Suzuki Music School of Michiana.  Violin instructor Abby Vogt showcased her violin students ages 5 – 11 Sunday afternoon, December 2nd.

Miss Abby, as her students call her, brought five of her beginning students to perform a variety of popular and Christmas violin tunes.  The mission of the Suzuki Music School of Michiana is to educate and develop individuals to their highest potential and aptitude through music, utilizing the Suzuki Method (based on the teachings of the late Dr. Shinichi Suzuki) in a nurturing, encouraging environment while incorporating community outreach and education.

Parents are an integral part of the Suzuki method of music education, and a parent is required to attend all lessons with the child.  Suzuki’s philosophy, no prior musical background and no entry testing is necessary for enrollment.

Songs played by Miss Abby’ students included “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, “The Elephant Song”, “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas”, “Come Little Children”, and “Joy To The World”.  The children required audience participation during “Jingle Bells” and gave the audience members bells to jingle throughout the song.

Children taking part in the recital included:  Fina Lomagro, 9; Bear Kallenberg, 5; Nicole Patrick, 11; Ava Gonce, 10 and Zeke Kallenberg, 8.
