ARGOS – Constant pressure by the offense was too much for Culver to withstand as the Argos Dragons took a win in boys soccer at Eugene Snyder Field by a 6-0 final.

Argos kept forward pressure for most of the game while the Cavs struggled to mount any consistent offense throughout the course of the night.
“It was a rough night; they are so strong and so good off the ball,” said Culver coach Mike Marshall. “We had to work all night for what little we got.”
Argos netted the ball quickly with Jesper Esser nailing a goal at 32:26 on an assist by Jacob Olds. Not daunted, seconds later on the ensuing kickoff, Culver’s Trenton Jones took a run at the goal with his shot just missing on a high bounce.
“Culver came ready to play and I think our early pressure really helped us a lot,” said Argos coach Todd VanDerWeele. “We were able to score in – I think the seventh or eighth minute – and I think that helped us a lot. It helped us relax and then we were able to start establishing possessions. We were a little sloppy with the ball the rest of the first half but we were able to add a couple more.”
Dragons Jonah Osborn was able to slip in another quick goal to start the second half, and while the Cavs still struggled to make a run at the goal, they valiantly held off consistent strong pressure from the Argos offense.
Taking the brunt of that offense, Culver keeper Cody Rieckhoff had an outstanding night in goal for the Cavs. Rieckhoff turned away 22 Argos shots on goal, some of them in acrobatic fashion.
“There’s a lot of games where the score doesn’t reflect what happened on the field and this might be one of them,” said Marshall. “Our keeper has done a great job this year. He’s a senior and he’s going to be missed.”
The win for Argos has VanDerWeele positive as the stretch run of the season starts and teams begin to gear up for the tournament.
“We’re getting there,” he said. “I feel very good. We’ve got a lot of inexperience that is now gaining experience and I feel like we’re starting to come together. We haven’t given up a lot of goals. We’ve been pretty stingy with giving up goals this season.”
