CULVER – The Plymouth junior varsity football squad took their 1-0 record on the road Monday evening to face Culver Military Academy and came away withy a 37-8 win over the Eagles.
Getting his first high school start quarterback sophomore Zephan Nixon led his team to their second victory of the season. The Rockies offense exploded for 5 touchdowns on the night. Nixon threw for three touchdowns, two of them going to his wide receiver classmate, Joe Styers. The final passing TD was thrown to another sophomore, Kam VanLue. In the final quarter, VanLue added a rushing touchdown to his very impressive stat line.
For the night VanLue had a rushing TD, a receiving TD, two rushing two-point conversions and to top it all off, he made an outstanding play on defense that resulted in an interception. Also with a big night was sophomore running back Blake Davis.
The Rockie defense continued to play at a high level and only allowed the Eagles a single touchdown.
The Rockie tenacious defense produced 3 turnovers on the night. Two interceptions, one by VanLue and the other by Dylan Gamble. The final turnover caused by the defense was a fumble recovered by Arturo Valdez.
The JV Rockies will face the Warsaw Tigers Saturday at home in the Rock Pile. Game time set for 10:00 a.m.
