NewsDuring Monday’s County Commissioner meeting a request was presented on behalf of Health by Design seeking a walking and biking area on one side of Pioneer Drive.

Laurie Baker from the County Highway Department said Mary Holm has asked if a re-striping could be done on Pioneer Drive where the county recently chip and sealed the road.  Her request was to make one side 8 to 10 feet wide instead of the current 5 feet of paved berm to allow for save walking, running and biking since the county hadn’t placed any marking on the road surface yet.

While the commissioners understood the request they felt the trail system Health by Design is working towards needs to be further developed before they would consider creating a specific marked area on Pioneer Drive.

Laurie Johnson from DLZ reminded the commissioner that Pioneer Drive was a federally funded road project that was designed for specific traffic counts and speed.  Shifting the lanes could cause additional issues.
