MORROCO, Ind. — A 30-yard field goal by Dakota Figg midway through the second quarter was all LaVille needed in a 3-0 victory at North Newton.
The Lancers, after graduating much of their offense from a year ago, made enough plays to put the offense within striking distance.
The drive that produced the field goal started at the LaVille 49. Figg broke free off the left side for a 38-yard run, then two plays and two penalties later, Kolby Watts took the ball to the 14-yard line. Figg’s kick was long enough and true for the lone points in the game.
Robby Pope carried the ball seven times for 33 yards, Watts 15 for 40, Figg three for 40, Riley Wagoner three for nine.
Leyton Czarnecki went two-for-five for 69 yards and no interceptions in his first start at quarterback.
Andrew Dill and Nathan Nichols-Petersen collected interceptions, and Figg recovered a fumble.
