The question on how to dispose of the old paver at the County Highway sparked a discussion on the possibility of an auction during Monday’s Commissioner meeting.
Laurie Baker, Administrator for the highway department told the commissioners they have a couple of options. The county could consign the old paver with Caterpillar for 4%, they can sell it outright once it’s declared surplus or a possible auction.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer said, “I think we need to get a list of what we have out there that we are not using and just have a public auction.” He suggested putting base bids on some of the items.
The discussion expanded into a county wide auction with other departments adding items to the auction.
Commissioner Overmyer suggested getting a couple of local auctioneers to assess the stuff and quote on conducting the auction for the county.
The plan is to have the auction early this fall.
