Drivers on South Michigan Street near Webster School should be aware of the new 4-way stop signs temporarily placed on Tuesday afternoon.

The stop signs have been placed in preparation for the new traffic signal that will be erected in mid August.

Michiana Contracting, the contractor for the project told the city the poles for the traffic signals were ordered but delayed in manufacturing.  They are not anticipated to arrive until mid August.

In the mean time the subcontractor who does the pavement markings was available so the city and Michiana felt it was best to get that portion of the project complete and not have to rework the schedule for pavement markings once the poles were installed.

School is scheduled to start on August 2nd and traffic will be slowed by the 4-way stop.

The new traffic signal will help control congested traffic at the intersection of South Michigan Street with Oak Hill Avenue and Soice Street.  Most of the time traffic on Michigan Street will have the green light.  When traffic on the side street is backing up or attempting to make left hand turns the signals will be tripped for cross traffic.

Please use caution at this intersection while everyone adjusts.
