Culver TheaterThe Culver Redevelopment Commission met Monday evening to consider the future of the Culver Theater.  Town Manager Jonathan Leist up-dated the members on a request for proposals from architectural firms.

He received two proposals, the most competitive one from SRKM Architecture in the amount of $8,450.   The proposal would include a structural assessment, preliminary budget, a community visioning session, and a preliminary business plan.

Commission members asked about the status of the privately held theater.   Leist explained the present owner has determined he no longer is interested in restoring and re-opening the theater and has therefore put it up for sale at an asking price of $150,000.

He suggested the Commission consider approving $5,000 toward securing an option to purchase as the preliminary studies are completed.    A motion was made to approve the preliminary studies and up to $5,000 for an option to purchase the building.   The Commission decided against pursuing the plan by a vote of 3-2 with Rich West, Tom Yuhas and Sue McInturff against and Sally Riccardi and Tammy Shaffer in favor.

After the vote President Rich West said:   “We need a champion for this project.”
