The 2nd annual – 27 hole match play – at Plymouth Country Club was contested Saturday with the hosts going 1-2 in three 9 hole matches.

Fort Wayne Carroll dominated the day winning all their individual matches except one!

Senior Reis Yoder lost two hard fought matches both by the slimmest of margins.  Sophomores Micah Calhoun and Hudson Yoder played solidly both going 2-1 on the day. Juniors Colin Caine and Roger Karr carded 1-2 finishes.  Senior Pietro Bologna was a bright spot winning his lone match.

Match play scoring differs from stroke play.  Lowest score per hole wins each hole. Total strokes are not kept. Players collect holes won vs their competitor.  Matches are decided by a player being ahead more holes than holes remaining to be played in their 9 hole match.

Our match with LaPorte was entertaining as two matches required additional holes to determine the outcome.  LaPorte won both extra hole situations which tipped the scales of the match in their favor.  These two nip and tuck matches also determined our overall team finish.

For the players today’s format was a refreshing break from our usual stroke play.  Players can be aggressive and relaxed all in the same hole depending on their opponents situation.
