Plymouth_Logo_2014Additional appropriations in the amount of $674,000 were approved during a public meeting Monday evening at the Plymouth Common Council meeting.

The first additional was $1,775 for the police department.  Police Chief Dave Bacon explained the money is the city’s share of Federal Equitable Sharing Funds, or the city’s share of seized money that is being appropriated to be used for the purchase of police equipment.  The next additional of $8,745 is also for the police department.  This money if deferral diversion funds received from the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Officer.  This typically is used to purchase vest for police officers.

The next additional is merely appropriating $37,053 from the Unsafe Building fund so they are available for any actions this year.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said the next additional is $326,430 for the FEMA Garro Street Project Fund.  The funds are part of the second grant the city received to purchase properties in the flood plain at the end of LaPorte Street near River Park Square and on Cleveland Street near Gill Park.  There are three properties the city is working with along with one they previously purchased with city funds due to the necessity of moving quickly because the owners needed to close out the estate.

The final additional appropriation approved was $300,000 for additional street improvement projects.  This brings the street department’s total to just over 700,000 for street improvements this year.

With very little discussion the Plymouth Common Council unanimously approved the resolution for the additional appropriations.
