Marv MontgomeryMYRTLE BEACH, SC – Ancilla’s Chargers had an early morning but a late afternoon as they took Chesapeake Community College into extra innings before falling by a 5-3 final in 8 innings and dropped an 11-1 five inning decision to Mohawk Valley in game two of a doubleheader.

Clayton Adamson (Tippecanoe Valley High School), gave up just one earned run in six innings work scattering six hits and walking just one but didn’t get the decision. Damon Prater (Kokomo High School) went an inning and a third and gave way to Dalton Clark (Rockville) who took the loss.

“We left 11 men on base that’s the story of that game,” said Ancilla Head Coach Joe Yonto. “We were more aggressive at the plate today but we couldn’t get any timely hitting. We pitched well enough to win you just can’t leave that many men on base.”

Marvin Montgomery (Avon High School) had a pair of hits and RBI’s in the game for the Chargers. Luke Gaboury (Mishwaka Marian High School) added a pair of hits of his own.

Game two saw Ancilla get behind and never really recover as Mohawk Valley took advantage of nine hits and some aggressive baserunning to make it a short game.

Chase Smith (Frankton High School) started and took the loss. The Chargers could manage just three hits off Hawk lefty Conor Case. Mike Spolyar (Lebanon High School) had Ancilla’s only RBI in the game.

“It’s been a little frustrating, we’ve been ahead more than we’ve been behind so far,” said Yonto. “We’ve done certain things well at certain times but we haven’t been able to put it together for a full game.”

The Chargers are now 0-4 on the new season with games against Montgomery Community College and a rematch with Mohawk Valley on Thursday.
