DSC05001PLYMOUTH, IN – Xalina Gonzalez, daughter of Ray and Ermalinda Gonzalez from Anchorage Alaska signed her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Ancilla College.

Xalina is a 2012 graduate of East Anchorage High School where she lettered three years in volleyball and one year in softball. During her sophomore year, Gonzalez was a setter and received the “most hard working” award. Her junior year she played OH/DS and received the MVP award. Her senior year, her team went 26-6 and she was a first team all-tourney team selection in the West Spiketacular. Gonzalez also received the all-region best server award and was all-region second team. After high school, she attended Colorado Northwestern where she was all-region honorable mention.

In high school, Gonzalez also played Midnight Sun Club volleyball where she played on the varsity gold team. She played on their All-Star team in the positions of OH, DS and Setter. In her spare time she was involved with and Upward Bound program where several community service projects took place. At her high school she was also involved in student government all four years and active in the Be the Change program.

“I chose Ancilla because I like what they have to offer and it has a great teacher to student ratio that will make it easier to get help on academics,” states Gonzalez who intends to major in nursing.

“Zee possesses great volleyball skills,” commented head coach Lana Singleton. “She can serve, back row attack, pass, dig, hit and set. She is a good utility player who is all about being a team player. I look forward to contributions as a Lady Charger.”
