ARGOS – Another honor is in store for a high school sports program that has had it’s share of honors.

Argos soccer – both boys and girls programs – have had their share of success and accolades through the years and this year the boys program will have another as WHME-TV 46 will feature the Dragons opener with Warsaw High School in their first live televised soccer contest on August 19.

“It will be a test for sure,” said Argos AD Jon Alcorn. “Anybody who follows soccer knows that Warsaw has one of the best programs in the state year in year out.”

It’s just part of grueling open to the new year for the Argos boys as they face the Tigers on Tuesday, with a road trip to Fort Wayne to play New Haven on Friday, before coming home to face Goshen on Saturday night.

Alcorn says that road games on Aug. 19 for the girls soccer and volleyball teams will be re-scheduled to allow everyone at the school to get out and support the Dragons in their “television debut”. The start time for the JV game that night is 5:30 p.m with the varsity set for a 7 p.m start.

While the nod to open the season on TV is an honor to be proud of Alcorn says that it is all part of a special mindset.

“I remember when I first started coaching here we all talked about everything that you do, do your best,” he said. “We were playing at another school a few years ago and a school official there said ‘I know you have a great reputation in soccer but I wish we had your ISTEP scores too.’ That statement really made me proud of what we do.”
