Through the participation of the Marshall County REMC members and partnership with the Marshall County Community Foundation, the Operation Round Up® Fund continues to grow and make a difference in the community. The Operation Round Up® board of directors is happy to announce the following organizations will be funded accordingly:
Muscular Dystrophy Association was awarded $800 to help fund a Marshall County student to attend Muscular Dystrophy Association Camp (MDA). MDA Camp is a week-long, overnight camp experience for local children ages 6-17 living with Muscular Dystrophy. The camp allows these children with special medical needs to get the opportunity to experience summer camp, try new things and be among other children just like them.
Bread of Life Community Food Pantry was awarded $1,000 to help fund a new high-efficiency commercial freezer. Bread of Life strives to provide one source of nutritious food to supplement the needs of the people. This service is offered in a spirit that maintains dignity, self-respect and privacy of those they serve.
Junior Achievement received $800 to help fund 4th grade classrooms at Webster Elementary on entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a community through the JA Our Region Program.
Marshall County Neighborhood Center was awarded $1,000 to help provide groceries for households that are struggling to meet their own basic needs. Each month the Neighborhood Center prepares to serve 400 Marshall County families. Their mission is to provide basic needs services to households in financial hardship, while encouraging their steps toward self-sufficiency.
Destination Imagination received funding for three separate divisions. Destination Imagination is a creative problem solving program for kids’ in kindergarten through 12th grade and university level, whose purpose is to encourage kids to think creatively to solve challenges in their community by using their hands and minds in teams of up to 7 kids. The funding was dispersed to help meet the following goals:
· Panthers from Community Destination received $600 to help improve the restrooms at the Bourbon Park Pavilion and Kyle’s Koncessions by installing air hand dryers.
· Imagination Outreach-Middle level received $750 to help fund an educational program on tombstone restoration for the community.
· Bird Watchers for Community Destination received $550 to help purchase 2 Natures Windows and 3 outdoor sound monitors to have in the Interpretive Center at the Potawatomi Wildlife Park in Tippecanoe. The sound monitors will allow classes and visitors to listen to the birds as they are outside feeding.
Operation Round Up funds are used to contribute to crucial community needs such as housing; assistance programs, medical care and education, but is not limited to these categories. Operation Round Up® funds are used for charitable purposes only.
