PLYMOUTH – Plymouth had a great first half, but LaPorte had a better second as they were able to come from behind to beat the Lady Pilgrims by a 65-45 final.

While Plymouth played the upset card in the first half, the Lady Slicers showed why they are unbeaten and considered one of the state’s elite teams in the second, striking from three point distance with deadly accuracy and running the floor with authority to put up 30 third quarter points.

But the first half belonged to the Lady Pilgrims.

“I thought our kids did a great job controlling the pace and getting the shots we wanted,” said Plymouth head coach Dave Duncan. “The second half…wow.”

“Plymouth is the kind of team that does a really good job of making you look bad,” said LaPorte boss Skeeter Heath of the Lady Pilgrim defense.

“They (LaPorte) shoot the ball so well, we didn’t do a good job controlling the pace in the second half,” said Duncan. “We let them dicatate what they wanted to do.”

What they wanted to do was dribble drive and kick, shooting the three or taking the lay in as the defense allowed.

“As you can see in the second half every one of their shots they hit were uncontested,” said Duncan. “It wasn’t like we were helping and losing kids trying to find the ball. They were wide open. They are a tremendous shooting team. I asked our kids ‘how long do you think they spend shooting in the gym after practice?’ Their dedication matches their talent.”

While Allie Wright spurred the Plymouth first half defensive effort, her third foul in the third quarter gave the LaPorte offense a little life headed to halftime, trailing by three.

Haley Harrell had 11 points to lead Plymouth. Nicole Horvath battled inside for nine points and five rebounds and she also had three assists.

The Lady Pilgrims (10-5) battle Concord on the road on Saturday.
