09/24/13 On Sunday, September 22nd at 12:48 a.m. Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Laffoon while on routine patrol on US 30 east of Oak Drive observed a vehicle speeding and driving erratically.   A traffic stop was initiated.  As the vehicle slowed down several items were observed being tossed from the vehicle.  Officer’s made contact and identified the driver as 26 year old Matthew C. Cadwell of Elk Grove Village, Illinois.  Mr. Cadwell appeared to be very nervous and Deputy Brandon Cooper with his K9 partner Arras was called to assist at the scene.   Officers were able to recover a plastic bag from the side of the roadway where it had been tossed that contained to white pills.

  The pills were identified at the scene as a scheduled 4 controlled substance. Officers also in located several items of drug paraphernalia in the same area.  An inventory of the vehicle revealed more drug paraphernalia and evidence of recent drug use. Mr. Cadwell was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail.  As he was being processed at the jail 7 small baggies of white powder were found concealed on his body.  A field test of the white powder showed positive test as heroin.  Cadwell was held on Possession of a Narcotic Drug over 3 Grams, Possession of a Schedule 4 Controlled Substance and Operating While Intoxicated charges without bond. 

 

Assisting at the scene was the Plymouth Police Department. 

 

Formal charges are pending through the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
