02/27/13 Several members of the Mayor’s Youth Council attended Monday night’s Common Council meeting.  Youth Council President, Karly Gruett reported to the Council the successes and accomplishments the group has had over the last two years.

One of the first issues placed on them by Mayor Senter was determining name options for the new downtown park.  The Youth Council selected several names and then created a survey for the community to select their favorites.  River Park Square was officially named during the Yellow River Festival.

The Mayor’s Youth Council created a recycling campaign to encourage residents of the city to use their new recycling totes to the fullest.  They wrote and recorded public service announcements that were aired on WTCA and made a logo for the radio website to promote recycling.

The youth helped at the Park Department’s Easter Egg Hunt, with the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and even served hot chocolate during the Christmas Tree Lighting.

The Mayor’s Youth Council is currently working on event plans to celebrate the City’s 140 years with a celebration on Saturday, April 22nd in Founders Park.
