02/12/13 The Marshall County Council approved the requests of Sheriff Tom Chamberlin and County Assessor Debbie Dunning for personnel replacements. The Sheriff said he recently had a female jailer/dispatcher leave to take a position in another jail. He asked for approval to fill the vacancy. Dunning said she has had the vacancy since June of 2012 but was just too busy to deal with the interview process. She said “I was hoping to find someone with real estate or an appraisal background but have been unable to find a person at what the job pays.” Dunning says the job requires a level 1 & 2 certification and 45 hours of continuing education every two years.
After presenting her activity report Veterans Service Officer Pam Schweizer-Betz was granted a full-time position with benefits. Commissioner Jack Roose presented the recommendation of the Commissioners to allow Pam all the benefits offered to full-time county employees. When looking at the cost, County Auditor Penny Lukenbill estimated the benefit package at well over $10,000 including health insurance, dental coverage, life insurance, long term disability, and PERF. Council president Matt Hassel said, “We knew the demand was up a year ago when we increase the hours and we all know what’s coming with the two recent wars.”
In other business the County Council approved an additional appropriation in the Rainy Day Fund for major improvements to the County Buildings heating and air conditioning system. Cost for all three floors is $205,000.
