05/08/12 State Senator Mike Delph and Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Commissioner Bobby Cox will travel to Plymouth on Tuesday to gather opinions about the former single-class basketball tournament and the current multiclass format.
The event will be held Tuesday evening in the Plymouth High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Those interested in attending should park in the north parking lot and enter through door #5. The school is located at 810 North Randolph Street.
A series of town meetings which allows Hoosier citizens an opportunity to voice their opinions on the topic of the old single class basketball tournament and the current multiple class format is underway.
The Commissioner and Senator are traveling to 11 different high schools around the state during April and May.
Individuals will be allowed two minutes each to voice their opinions, and a straw poll will be taken at the meetings. Member school principals, athletic directors as well as boys and girls basketball coaches at those schools will be able to share their views electronically with the IHSAA.
“While the IHSAA is a private, non-for-profit membership organization with elected representation, I feel it is important for our organization to listen to the opinions of the general public in an effort to clearly communicate those sentiments to our member schools,” said Cox. “The principals within our 408 member schools rely on the Association for current and relevant data to equip them to make informed decisions regarding education-based athletics within our state. I look forward to travelling the state with Senator Delph and visiting with Hoosiers during the next two months.”
Also participating will be Todd Samuelson and Ron Sissel, members of the 1982 Plymouth state champion basketball team. In addition, Scott Skiles, has sent a letter regarding his thoughts on the issue. Skiles is a former professional basketball player and current coach of the National Basketball Association’s Milwaukee Bucks. He helped secure a state tournament title for Plymouth High School in 1982.
