During their regular meeting on May 5, the Plymouth School Board reviewed changes that will be added to the student handbooks for the 2015-2016 school year. Changes can be made to handbooks digitally and posted on the corporation’s internet site.

Plymouth Community SchoolsCorporation-wide changes include changing the Visitor Statement to reflect that visitors must have an ID  (identification) to enter any of the school buildings;  the Personal Property statement moved to Student’s Responsibility; and added Board policy regarding field trips to Student Activities Section.

Superintendent Daniel Tyree explained that an added statement concerning cameras in all buildings refers to the use of CCTV security camera use.

Other changes include: Re-ordered language regarding attendance and attendance contracts; clarification of how absences can be excused when a student is on an attendance contract ; and changed Supervised Out of School Suspension to Supervised Suspension.

There will also be changes in formatting on Immunizations charts and add Hep A vaccination for K-1st grade.

Specific changes for Riverside Intermediate include: Clarification of the hours that the building will be open; and added language more defining of the attendance policy, tardy policy, and definition of perfect attendance. There will also be additions to the “Catch Up Café” policy and athletic expectations.

Changes for Lincoln Junior High read as follows: “Students may carry books and materials to and from school in backpacks, book bags, sport bags, purses and computer bags. All bags should be kept in assigned lockers during classes and the school day. School issued computer bags are to be used to carry school computers throughout the school day.”

Several changes to the Plymouth High School handbook are being made in various areas. Among those changes are the following: Changes relating to semesters; removal of club officer names; clarified formal dress as being one-piece; made Sweetheart Dance language gender neutral; removal of the appeals process from the Athletic Code violations; and added language on Vape Pens to the Athletic Code. Additional changes include a revised Mail Chimp statement (monthly, rather than weekly); updated facilitator list ; updated courses/AP/Honors/Dual Credit Lists; changed language regarding dual credits; and updated course descriptions.

Student and parents/guardians are encouraged to review the student handbooks prior to the 2015-2016 school year.
