Just before 5:30 Monday evening emergency responders were dispatched by the Marshall County 9-1-1 Center to a farming accident at the very back of the Tall Oaks Subdivision.
Dispatchers said a farmer was run over by a round hay baler. On scene it was obvious that the tractor pulling the baler ran into a NIPSCO electric pole with enough force to cause the pole to lean drastically to the east.
Scanner traffic indicated the 85 plus year old man received injuries to his entire body.
He was airlifted by MedFlight to the trauma center at Memorial Hospital. The man died of his injuries in South Bend. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
