03/14/13 Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02), a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement regarding the House Republicans budget plan, The Path to Prosperity: A Responsible, Balanced Budget:

“I applaud the hard work of Chairman Paul Ryan and my Republican colleagues to present the American people with a responsible, commonsense budget that will balance over the next 10 years.  At home in Indiana, Hoosier families sit around their kitchen tables and make tough decisions to keep a budget; it is time for Washington to do the same.  With record deficits and runaway spending, I am confident this plan will start to erase our $16.6 trillion national debt and spur economic growth to create jobs.  I encourage the President and Senate Democrats to come to the table and join us in our mission to balance the budget—proving this Congress will not tolerate business as usual in our nation’s capital.”

Wednesday, President Obama visited Capitol Hill to meet with the Republican Congress for the first time in two years.  As only one of seven Members to address President Obama, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02) asked him why the federal government does not balance the budget, and the President responded: “America is not a family.”

“Hoosier families sit around their kitchen tables and make tough choices to keep a budget, and Washington must do the same with our taxpayer dollars,” said Walorski.  “I appreciate the President coming to speak with Congress, and I hope he heard our concerns and will come to the table to work on a serious budget plan.”

After the meeting, Walorski joined the House Republican Leadership Press Conference–as the only freshman member—to discuss the meeting with the President.  Click here to watch.
