The Plymouth Community School Corporation announced the appointment of Joshua Overmyer as Principal of Washington Discovery Academy, pending board approval. With a strong background in both teaching and administration, Overmyer brings valuable expertise to his new role.

Overmyer began his educational journey with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Bethel in 2011. Building on his passion for education, he completed the Transition to Teaching program at Bethel in 2013. His commitment to professional growth then led him to earn a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education in 2014, followed by a Master of Education in Educational Leadership in 2015.

Having taught as a Fifth Grade Math and Science Teacher at PCSC’s Riverside Intermediate School from 2016 to 2019, Overmyer possesses valuable classroom experience. He subsequently assumed the roles of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Caston Jr./Sr. High School before serving as Assistant Principal at LaVille Jr./Sr. High School. With a State of Indiana Professional Educator’s License and a Building Level Administrator License, Overmyer is equipped with the necessary qualifications to lead Washington Discovery Academy. Additionally, he is an active member of the Indiana Association of School Principals and is constantly engaging in professional development opportunities that prioritize the safety, well-being, and learning of students.

Overmyer expressed his enthusiasm stating, “When I moved to administration in education, I was in the Jr./Sr. High School. My heart has always been in the elementary setting, so having the opportunity to come back to Plymouth, where I live, and work in the elementary…I am excited for this next chapter in my life. I look forward to meeting the students and staff at WDA and can’t wait to begin building relationships.”

As Principal of Washington Discovery Academy, Overmyer will oversee the educational, administrative, and counseling activities of the elementary school. His responsibilities include evaluating programs to ensure compliance with state and school board standards, coordinating educational initiatives through effective staff meetings and directives, and engaging with teachers, students, and parents to address educational, extracurricular, and behavioral matters. Overmyer will also foster relationships with external organizations, manage the procurement of necessary supplies, and oversee teacher and student assignments. Additionally, he will contribute to employee recruitment, training, performance appraisal, and problem resolution, while providing guidance for extracurricular events.

PCSC is confident in Overmyer’s leadership abilities and looks forward to his valuable contributions as the Principal of Washington Discovery Academy. His dedication to education, background in the field, and commitment to fostering a positive learning environment make him an exceptional addition to the PCSC team.
