Mary Sue Burns Burroughs entered her heavenly home on Friday, June 9, 2023. She was born in Plymouth, Indiana on July 22, 1935 to Ford and Hazel Newman Burns. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1953. At the age of thirteen she met the love of her life, Willis David Burroughs, and they married on December 27, 1953.

In her youth, Mary Sue was a master baton twirler and performed with her twin sister, Betty Lou, and her younger sister Peggy at many events around the country. She also enjoyed roller skating. Mary and Willis were beautiful dance skaters and actually met at a roller-skating rink.

Mary Sue was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Plymouth where she sang in the choir and helped with Bible School and other church activities for many years. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved to cook Sunday family dinners. She was legendary for her strawberry jam, deviled eggs, and pumpkin cookies. She loved attending her family’s numerous music, drama, church and athletic activities and often traveled out-of-state to do so.

Mary worked full-time until she was 80 years old. She was employed at Wickes in Argos for many years and then worked in the sales office at Bomarko for more than forty years. Mary Sue was full of life and was active her whole life. She was still walking 3-5 miles a day through her eighties.

She is survived by her husband, Willis Burroughs, two sons: Mike (Sandy) Burroughs and Jim (Donna) Burroughs; grandchildren: Amanda (Dustin) Richert, Jimmy (Tianna) Burroughs, Allison (Charles) Garmon, and David (Renee) Burroughs; great-grandchildren: Juliana Richert, Cooper Richert, Harper Burroughs, Piper Burroughs, Hanna Barham, Teagan Garmon, and Ella Garmon; sister Peggy (Del) Fast as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Betty Burns Yockey.

Per the wishes of the family services will be private.
