Last night, the Lady Pilgrims traveled to the Goshen Regionals.  In the 100m prelims, Alana Allen heat experienced 2 false starts and 2 timing malfunctions that took the participants on multiple runs down the track….not the optimal start for the prelims or the regional sprinters.  After the 100m heat, Allen was sitting in 8th place with a place in the finals.  In the 100m hurdles, Jersey Hunter ran the 3rd fastest time in the prelims heading into the finals with a time of 15.91.  Allen lined up for the 200m prelims in the first heat, she suffered a knee injury in the middle of the heat ending her regionals and fantastic year.  Next up, Hunter ran in a stacked field for the 100m hurdles and the race for the third and the final ticket to the state finals was in the balance.  There were three hurdlers battling as they neared the last hurdle, when the dust settled Jersey finished outside the top 3 ending her incredible season.  Next up, in the 1600m Sophie Wray went out fast with an aggressive first 800m and was in the top part of the field on the very warm day.  She finished up her season with a good finish.  Lauren Gurtner competed in the 400m and finished two spots ahead of her seed with a new personal best time.  Arielle Ferman cleared 8’6″ in the Pole Vault and then competed in the Long Jump.  In her fourth long jump competition, she made the event finals and narrowly missed the podium by 1/4″ as she set a new personal best.  In the final event of the night, Sonya Joseph, Joy Everett, Emma Erhart and Amaya Ameling raced in the mile relay.  The ladies ran their third fastest time of the year.  The regionals included teams and athletes from the Bremen, Kokomo, Mishawaka and Warsaw sectionals that are some of the top performers in the state, we are proud of the season our student athletes had and the way that they represented the Big Red P all season long.  Congratulations on an incredible year!  Week after week, our team gave us new personal records or season best times that were highlighted with this year’s team setting four school records and proving that we belonged on the track with the very best.  Thank you to all the coaches who poured their passion into our girls each day and prepare them for the long grueling season.  We will be coordinating our end of season banquet and will provide details by the end of the week.  #ProudToBeTheBigRedP #PHSGirlsTrack
