U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), and Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) applauded news that President Biden has signed their bipartisan Data Mapping to Save Moms’ Lives Actinto law. The legislation would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to identify areas where high rates of poor maternal health outcomes overlap with lack of access to broadband services in order to pinpoint where telehealth services can be most effective.

“Unfortunately, Indiana has one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the country. I’m glad the President has now signed our Data Mapping to Save Moms’ Lives Act into law to improve the lives of Hoosier mothers and families. This new law will identify where high maternal mortality rates coincide with lack of broadband services to help ensure these regions have access to the life-saving telehealth services that pregnant women need for better care,” said Senator Young.

“I am proud to have worked in a bipartisan way to pass this critical law that will help better target where telemedicine improvements will be most effective to improve outcomes for expectant mothers and save lives,” said Senator Rosen. “The Data Mapping to Save Moms’ Lives law will go a long way towards improving maternal health outcomes for women in Nevada and across the country.”

“In many rural communities, pregnant women lack reliable access to the maternal health resources they need. Hospitals are often too far away, and poor broadband connections make utilizing telehealth services difficult. By analyzing broadband data alongside maternal health outcomes, our new law will help to identify the areas where better connectivity can help to save lives,” said Senator Fischer.
