LAKEVILLE- Ellen J. Baney, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 4, 2022.

Born in Argos, Indiana on May 5, 1937, Ellen was the daughter of Robert Adam Thompson and Mildred Eva (Snider) Thompson Books. She graduated from Plymouth High School and went on to attend Ball State University and IU-South Bend to attain her master’s degree in education.

She married Ronald L. Baney on June 6, 1959, in Plymouth and the two would make Lakeville their forever home. She taught elementary students at Union North United School Corporation (LaVille) for 44 years. She loved her students and enjoyed teaching and was many of her students “favorite teacher”. Ellen also had a witty sense of humor.

Ellen was passionate about genealogy and family history. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening and loved her Belted Galloway cows.

Ellen was a member of Plymouth Baptist Church and a Daughter of the American Revolution member.

She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Barbara) Baney of Plymouth and Jeffery (Linda) Baney of Plymouth; grandchildren: Michael (Stacy), Marion (Anna), Marrissa (Alex) and Marcus; step-grandchildren, Amanda, and Wesley; great-grandchildren: Aaron and Cora and step great-grandchildren Tyler, Gavin, Cody, Madison, Kole and Kinleigh; and step-great-great grandchild, Luka; brother Jerry (Nina) Thompson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ron, her parents, son Dale Baney and sister Diana Wiles.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastors Clark Harless and Doug Dieterly officiating.

Family burial will be on Friday in the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
