The Marshall County Health Department released guidelines for school children who have tested positive for COVID—19 along with quarantine recommendations for schools with and without masks.

If a student tests positive for COVID-19 they should stay at home for 5 days from the test date.  They can return to school on the 6th day after the test if they are asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving and can be properly masked until the 10th day from their positive test.  If a student is unable to properly mask at all times, then they must remain isolated at home for the full 10 days. It was also noted that in order to participate in extracurricular activities on day 6 the student must be properly masked at all times during the activity through day 10.

If a student is exposed to a positive COVID-19 case in the classroom at a school that requires masks, and the student remains asymptomatic they are allowed to remain at school and continue to wear a mask.  If that exposed student participates in extracurricular activities the student must mask while not actively playing or performing, such as sitting on the bench or in the locker room, for 10 days.

If a student is exposed to a positive COVID-19 case outside of the classroom and is fully vaccinated, including booster is eligible they will follow the same rules.  If an unvaccinated or partially vaccinated student is exposed to a positive COVID-19 case outside of school, they must stay home for 5 days from the last exposure.  They may return to school on day 6 if they are asymptomatic but must wear a mask for days 6 through 10.  They can resume extracurricular activities on day 6 if they are able to mask at all times.

If a school student in Marshall County attends a school that doesn’t require masking and they are exposed in class or outside of the class and are full vaccinated including booster, if eligible, they may remain in school if they have no symptoms.  Students must mask for 10 days from the last day of contact with the positive case.  Students can participate in extracurricular activities but must mask while not actively playing or performing for all 10 days.

If the student isn’t vaccinated or only partially vaccinated, they must stay home for 5 days from the last exposure.  They may return to school on the 6th day if they have no symptoms and mask for days 6 through 10.  These students must also mask while participating in extracurricular activities.

If symptoms develop during the quarantine, individuals should get tested before returning to school.
