The Plymouth girls golf team on Saturday competed hard at Bent Oak in the NLC conference championship. The ladies avenged a loss to Warsaw in the round-robin portion finishing second today, and in the process finishing tied for second overall in the conference. Warsaw edged us out in our lone dual match of the regular season at Stonehenge over nine holes. Today’s round, over 18 holes, on a neutral course, the ladies bested the Tigers by six shots.

Medalist honors with a 73 (1 over par) went to Senior Cybil Stillson of NorthWood. Plymouth senior Annastasia Hutchings finished runner-up with an 84. Saturday’s second-place finish in the tournament was our best finish in the conference tournament since 2011. Plymouth last won the event in 2007.

Plymouth’s attack was balanced and our quality and depth shined today. Junior Elaina McDonald 92, Sophomore Hannah LaFree 93, Junior Emma Rozycki 95, and Junior Claire McDonald 106. Ball striking was much-improved top to bottom today with several fairways and quality play around the greens. Today’s 364 team score was our season-low by 5 shots. Having played the back nine at Bent Oak last week in round-robin play we had an advantage on the tougher closing nine. I was proud particularly of Emma who after a rocky front nine gathered herself and fired a much improved 42 (nine-shot difference) on the back. The trio of Anna, Elaina, and Hannah fired consistent nines to earn their scores. As a team, Plymouth was the only group to place all four of their players inside the top 15.

As well as we performed under pressure today we certainly left some shots on the course! Looking ahead to Sectional next Saturday at Stonehenge we have some team goals yet to achieve and some personal bests to improve upon.

Next up for the ladies is our final home event Monday evening at Pretty Lake when Culver Academy and South Bend Adams come to tangle on Senior Night.
