This weekend you can hear Canadian fiddling at its best with Ottawa Valley sweetheart, April Verch, on the Wild RoseMoon Radio Hour. Join April and her talented band featuring Cody Walters (Bass/Claw-Hammer Banjo) and Korey Brodsky (Guitar & Mandolin) for a session full of lively fiddle tunes—some original and from around the world. During the show, April talks with host, George Schricker, about watching the Tommy Hunter show on CBC Television and being influenced by the great Al Cherny—whom Verch describes as a “natural showman” on the fiddle. April also discusses the band’s memorable appearance at the Mozart Concert House in Vienna, Austria. Along the way, sidekick and spouse, Cody Walters, describes his early days of playing the tenor sax and his debt to Charlie Chadwick for inventing the fold-away string bass. Korey Brodsky reviews his interest in Bach and his study at the Berklee School of Music in Massachusetts. Adding to the show is Wild Rose Moon’s resident songwriter, Ryan Mear, playing a particularly heartfelt love song that brings down the house. All this, plus, New Carlisle resident, Roger Clark and Marshall County Orchestra Member, Annette Ray, having fun with the musical questions on the Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour’s quiz show—Shoot the Moon! You can catch the show at 1050 AM & 106.1 FM WTCA Radio at 12 Noon this Saturday, April 4th, and at WVPE 88.1 FM at 9 p.m. on Monday night, April 6th. The show is also live-streamed from WVPE and archived there for later listening.
