vote_buttonsThis week the Marshall County Election Board reviewed the list of local candidates who will be on the May Primary Election ballot.

Clerk Dev VanDeMark said both sided have delegate candidate filings for the convention this year. She said each side is entitled to 14.  The Democrats only had 9 file and the Republicans had 15 who filed.  The Clerk explained that since there is a race on the Republican side all named will have to be on the ballot.  Her question to the Election Board members was should they put both parties delegates on the ballot even thought all who signed up on the Democratic side are already winners since there wasn’t a race.

Democratic Election Board representative Rick Huff said he felt leaving them on the ballot was best so those who vote can see who filed.

The Clerk reminded him that the ballot will be very long because of the presidential race.  There will be 10 candidates on the Democratic ballot.

The Election Board agreed with Huff and the Democratic Delegates will be on the May Primary ballot.

The Clerk also questioned having the Precinct Committeemen on the Republican ballot.  She said the Democrats were up two years ago so it’s only the Republican this election.  The Republicans are all running unopposed.   VanDeMark said she didn’t see a need to have them on the ballot, especially since there are 18 of them and they are all winners.

The County Election Board voted to leave the Republican Precinct Committeemen off the Primary Ballot since they are all winners.
