MIller's_SSD Jan 2020 Ang and ChipMiller’s Assisted Living recently hosted a Senior Self Defense Class for their residents and guests from the community.

Miller's_SSD Jan 2020 joe and Ang chokingChip Dean Owner of Integrity Academy of Martial Arts; Instructor, Angela Drake; and Student, Joe Choquette conducted the self-defense class.  Dean began by explaining the most important part of self defense is being aware of your surroundings.  Put your cell phone down and pay attention to what is going on around you. He then said that your voice is your first line of defense…always yell or scream!! He also stressed that you are not learning self-defense to then turn around and be aggressive toward the perpetrator.  They teach self defense for you to be able to defend yourself and get away from the situation.

Drake and Choquette then took center stage to demonstrate different hair grabs, choke holds, arm grabs etc. and how to get out of these situations.  After much demonstration and instruction the group from Integrity Academy demonstrated breaking boards using their Taekwondo skills.
