Heartland Artis barn quiltHeartland Artists Gallery is proud to display a 4×4 barn quilt through September. The quilt was painted by kids during the ART in the Street event in June. Marshall County Tourism gave kids of all ages the opportunity to paint a community quilt that will be hung in downtown Plymouth. This will be another quilt added to the Barn Quilt Trail through Tourism. Following along with the quilt theme at the gallery, are members of Friendship Quilters Guild as the featured artists’ of the month showing their beautiful and colorful textile art in quilts.

The Heartland Artist Gallery enjoys collaborating with other organizations to bring more art to our community. That is part of their mission and this is a great example of that kind of interactive effort. Cori Humes, Executive Director of Marshall County Tourism shared this about the Barn Quilt Trail, “There’s no better way to experience the culture and history of rural Northern Indiana than by hitting the road to travel through the gently rolling countryside.  In the spring of 2009, this journey became even more inviting as colorful quilt-block murals started to adorn historic barns, family homesteads and public spaces. Marshall County’s trail is Indiana’s first Barn Quilt Trail and celebrates the history of agriculture, time-honored tradition of quilting, the community’s passion for art, community pride and Hoosier Hospitality. Connecting the communities throughout Marshall County, the Barn Quilt Trail features a series of large murals painted in a variety of quilt patterns on barns, businesses and public spaces in downtown areas including popular Culver and Plymouth.

At the 2019 Heartland Artists Gallery’s Art in the Street event, Marshall County Tourism participated by celebrating their 10th year of the Marshall County Barn Quilt Trail by having the youth in the community paint a 4×4 barn quilt named, “Patchwork of Youth.”   Humes said, “We are humbled to have the barn quilt on display in the gallery, then it will be erected in downtown Plymouth for all to view.”

Any interested in viewing all 75 barn quilts, should stop by the Marshall County Visitor Center in downtown Plymouth for self-guided trail map.
