County Highway Department Continues Chip & Seal along with Area Work

August 5, 2019

This week the Marshall County Highway Department will be berming 11th Road from U.S. 31 to South Michigan Road in preparation for the Community Crossing paving project which should take place this month.

The County will also be grinding off humps on Lincolnway West towards Donaldson before the sealing project and continue with the chip and seal work across the southern part of the county.

Superintendent Jason Peters said, “Area leaders will be working in there townships on Monday and Tuesday to catch up on some maintenance patching, brush cutting, grading and other miscellaneous repairs.”  He continued,  “This is an area that gets a little behind this time of year due to the man power required to chip and seal projects.”   Peters explained that it takes everyone in the department due to the personal required to fill all the positions involved: 2 distributor operators, 2 flaggers, 2 on the chipper box, 2 on rollers, 2 on steel drum rollers, 1 in the broom sweeping ahead of seal crew and 1 loader operator.  The highway superintendent said they use mechanics, the culvert crew and even supervisors to haul stone and run the equipment to keep more trucks on the road.
