Recycle Depot_Logo11-10-17Members of the Marshall County Solid Waste Management District met Monday morning for their monthly meeting.

Executive Director Marianne Peters presented members with two options for the 2020 budget.  The both options were exactly the same except for the raises for next year.  The first option included an across the board raise of $1,000 for all three full time positions and a $.50 an hour raise for the part time office assistant.  The second option presented had a 2% raise for the director and a 3% raise for the two full time employees…that amounted to $1,298 for each of the three positions.

Peters discussed with the board her desire to offer a competitive raise since the department no longer offers the benefit of health insurance for the employees.  She told the board one employee was able to obtain insurance through their spouse and the other employee found the family premiums too expensive. She herself went on her husband’s insurance through his employer.  Peters said having only three on the plan made it less competitive when they were seeking quotes.  She also said they had been on the county’s insurance but since they are not considered county employees they were “booted” off the plan.

After additional discussion the Solid Waste District Board voted to give the two full time employees a 5% raise and Director Peters a 4% raise which equals about $2,250.

The proposed 2020 budget presented totals more than $370,000 a proposed increase with the larger raises of more than $15,000 from the 2019 budget.  It was also noted that estimated revenues for 2020 were projected to be about $350,000 so the budget is higher than anticipated revenues.
