LuvaROCHESTER — Plymouth’s Pilgrims got a lot of things right in taking a 13-3 win on the road at Rochester.

While the Zebras took the first inning lead, Plymouth erupted for five runs in the second, two in the third and six runs in the fifth to seal the 10 run five inning win.
“We did a lot of things really well on the basepaths,” said Pymouth coach Ryan Wolfe. “We ran the bases hard and that’s what we’ve been preaching all year. If we get a chance to steal a bag we are going to steal it, we’re going to go first to third. I thought we were really aggressive in winning the game and putting a lot of pressure on them to win the game.”
“The coaches have done a great job of working with them and teaching them the game,” said Wolfe “If the other team isn’t doing what they are supposed to be doing on defense we are going to take advantage of that.”
The Pilgrims had five stolen bases on the night – two by Thomas Dolan – and ran the bases with abandon, forcing the hand of the Zebra defense on several occasions.
Jesus Luva, Cole Filson and Jacob Deacon each had two RBI hits, Matt Dobuck had a three run double and Dolan was three for three with a walk. Ivan Winkle had a pair of hits and three RBI’s. In all the Pilgrims had 13 hits on the night.
While the Pilgrims have hit the ball well all year, on this night they would get several key hits in key situations.
“Even though we’ve won a few games here early we’ve still been missing that key hit,” said Wolfe. “Tonight we really did. We worked on that last night at practice. One of our rounds (of batting practice) was a two strike round, not being an easy out. I think our kids responded tonight.”
Dobuck gets the win on the mound in his second start walking three, striking out three and giving up five hits. Jacob Deacon came on in the fourth to work out of a bases loaded jam with three strikouts and then got through a two out threat in the fifth.
“(Jacob) Deacon is a guy in our bullpen that’s going to throw strikes and that’s what we’re looking for,” said Wolfe. “We’re still working with Matt (Dobuck), working out a few kinks. He’s got a lot of good stuff but we have to find a way to limit the free bases. He’s a kid that wants to get better and he’s going to do that.”
Plymouth moves to 3-1 on the season and will take on Triton at Bill Nixon Field on Thursday.
