Bourbon Water Tower_1The Bourbon Town Council discussed a number of agenda items during their meeting on April 9. Council President P.J. Hanley was absent from the meeting.

The Council announced that Bourbon was awarded a Community Crossing Grant of $295,652.99. The town is responsible for a 25 percent match. According to Street Department Superintendent, Roger Terry, the grant will be used for street and sidewalk repairs or replacements.

Town Clerk/Treasurer Kim Berger said resident Rosemary Shearer has applied for the residential sidewalk program that splits the cost of sidewalk replacement on a 50/50 basis. The quote for the proposed work on Sunset and N. Bourbon Streets was $6,450. After investigation, it was discovered that a portion of the application site will be covered through the Community Crossing Grant.

The Town of Bourbon is beginning the process of annexing 88 acres that lies just east of the Triton Schools. The owners of the property are requesting the annexation. According to Berger, the owners are considering using the property for a housing development at the corner of 12th and Cedar Roads.

The council voted unanimously to approve carpet replacement for the town’s offices as well as the council room. The replacement cost from Brouwer Carpet is $3,700.

Steve Stacy, Water/Wastewater Superintendent said the repair of a Solar Bee will be covered by insurance. The equipment that was damaged rotates the water in one of the town’s sewer ponds. The company overseeing the repairs will perform maintenance on all four Solar Bees units used the town. The total cost, including a $2,500 deductible will be some $12,500.
