Miller's_Plymouth_k9 April 3 2019Plymouth Police Officer Stuart Krynock and his K-9 partner, Castor paid a visit to the residents and their guests at Miller’s Assisted Living Facility on Thursday afternoon.  Castor is a 3 1/2 year old Belgian Malinois that came from the Netherlands and responds to his commands in Dutch.  The Belgian Malinois is a high energy, highly intelligent breed that loves to work and keeps very busy.  Officer Krynock told about the way Castor was trained and the partners gave several demonstrations while at Miller’s.

Castor came to the United States in September fully trained in tracking different types of drugs and also in suspect apprehension.  For his training with Officer Krynock the two were paired up at Von Lick Kennels in Peru where Krynock learned the Dutch commands and how to work with him. Castor came home with Officer Krynock on October 19.

While at Miller’s Castor was able to sniff out some drugs that had been hidden before his arrival.  Officer Krynock gave him the command to search for drugs and Castor took off.  When he found the drugs he immediately sat down to indicate that drugs were found.  As a reward for his good detective work Castor was given a tennis ball to play with.

Miller's_Police K-9 running April 3 2019Another demonstration involved Assistant Police Chief Officer Mark Owen as the “bad guy running from the police” and Castor chasing him and taking him down.  Krynock pointed out that Castor can run up to 35 miles per hour.

Officer Krynock is married and has three children.  Castor has also become a part of the Krynock family because as partners they go home together after work.

“When he is at work,” Said Krynock, “Castor is all work.  But, when we go home he loves to have fun.  He is a great addition to our family!”

Miller's_K-9 Castor April 3 2019When asked who pays for food and other necessities for Castor, Krynock pointed out that the Police Department is responsible for Castor’s food and other things.  The money comes from donations from the public.  If anyone would like to donate to the Plymouth Police Department K-9 fund can contact Plymouth Police Chief David Bacon.
