LJSTuesday evening the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals approved the variance request of Clover Development Group pertaining to the city’s parking standards.

Nick Churchill from Clover Development said O’Reilly Auto Parts  would like to purchase the Long John Silver’s property and build a new auto parts store on the location.  The current parking in the Michigan Street right-of-way was created before the city adopted the parking standards so it’s grandfathered.  Because the plan is to tear down the existing building and build a new one the variance is necessary.

With both McDonalds and CVS having parking in the city’s right-of-way on Michigan Street there really wasn’t a question.  It was noted that they will have the city’s required number of parking spaces and at city specs for size.

The variance was unanimously approved.

The second variance was a variance of use to permit a residential home and accessory building in an industrial zone.

Mary Relos owns 40 acres at 15959 7th Road and would like to have her daughter build on home in the farm field next to her home using about 3 acres.

Plan Consultant, Ralph Booker said they only reason for the variance is because of the zoning of the property.  The zoning was changed in 2008 on the property while the neighbors to the west and north are still zoned agriculture.

The family said there are no industrial businesses on the road and everything around them is agricultural or residential.

The Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals approved the variance.
