Sheriff Matt HasselSheriff Matt Hassel gave the County Commissioners his recommendation on vehicles for this year’s budget.

After more than several months of looking at options including the possibility of leasing vehicles, the sheriff recommended the out-right purchase of five new vehicles.

Sheriff Hassel said if they went with the lease option with Enterprise for the 16 patrol vehicles they would spend over $157,00 a year while this year he budgeted $114,000.  He also commented that he would also need additional funds to buy back some of the vehicles to upgrade some of the other vehicles in his fleet.

County Auto had the low quote for 4 police pursuit rated Dodge Durangos and a Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab 4×4 for a bid of $153,641.  The sheriff will trade in four vehicle and reduce the cost by $8,300 bringing the bottom line to $145,341. The truck is a replacement for a 2017 pick-up truck that was totaled in a wreck this winter.

Sheriff Hassel will pay for the vehicle using four different line items in the budget: the general fund, extradition fund, commissary fund and the insurance reimbursement.

The Marshall County Commissioners approved the Sheriff’s recommendation to purchase the vehicles from Country Auto for a total cost of $145,341.
