i Touch finger printWard Byers, Director of Operations for Marshall County Community Corrections appeared before the Marshall County Commissioners Monday seeking permission to apply for a grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.  He said the dollars are passed down to the states from the federal government.

The $20,000 grant does not require a local match and the funds would be used to purchase and install an I-Touch live scan finger print machine for the probation department.  Byers noted the machine is identical to the one in the county jail.

Byers said, “This would allow for compliance with a 2017 law that requires all felons who are sentenced by the court to be fingerprinted.”  He explained that sometime people are summonsed into court and may not have been fingerprinted on an initial charge.    This would allow for the probation department or court serviced to obtain those required finger prints of someone sentenced who may not have been fingerprinted before.

The Marshall County Council approved the request at their March 11th and the Commissioners unanimously approved the request on Monday.
