School Board_Washington Discovery3-2019Six fourth grade students from Washington Discovery Academy presented how using math concepts could help them solve problems. Their presentation entitled “Escape Room, 4th Grade Style” was shown during the March 5 meeting of the Plymouth School Board.

They used a narrative story written by a student that contained clues hidden in math problems to find the “keys” they needed to find their way out of the imaginary room. The various clues used divisibility rules hidden in puzzles, computation tasks within a map and a maze, and word problems.

Teachers Kim Riddle and Amanda Dreibelbis said the activity has been duplicated by all the students in their fourth grade classes.

The student presenters at the meeting, Deacon Schafer, Aiden Sampson, Zeke Holsopple, Diego Seville Carranza, Kyndall Marcum, and Ella Krynock, said they learned how to work together and increased their team building skills to discover the answers to the challenges.
