Bus crash US 31 and RR 13th Road_2The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office will release the recommendation of the Grand Jury that was convened on February 4th and 5th on possible criminal charges of the truck driver involved in the fatal school bus crash on U.S. 31 on December 5, 2018.

A press conference will be held on Friday afternoon February 8th at 1:30 in the Commissioner’s meeting room of the County Building.

The grand jury convened on Monday and Tuesday to hear details of the case where 13 year old Owen Abbott, an eighth grader in the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation was killed in a school bus accident.  Students were on a field trip that morning and north bound on U.S. 31.  The bus had just stopped at the railroad crossing, just south of 13th Road, as required by law and was beginning to accelerate when it was struck in the left read by a straight truck driven by 26 year old Tylor Perry of Camby.

Abbott was killed instantly in the collision and several students onboard the bus sustained injuries.

The Indiana State Police crash report indicated that Perry was attempting to remove a sweatshirt and jacket he was wearing while driving the truck and that cause him to briefly take his eyes off the road when the crash occurred.
