Plymouth Color Logo2014It was a quick couple of meeting Monday evening for the City of Plymouth.

The Board of Public Works and Safety opened five bids for the Spring Street and Sidewalk Projects and took them under advisement for review.  City Engineer Rick Gaul said he would recommend the award at the next meeting on January 28th.

The Board also approved the request of Tonda Ellis to place a restricted parking sign at her business, Kay’s Beauty Salon in the 100 block of East LaPorte Street.  Ellis said 30 to 40% of her clientele are ladies on canes and walkers that can barely walk across the street.  She also noted with River Park Square, traffic comes around the corner at Water and Garro very fast and she fears one of her ladies will be hit.  The restricted parking will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 to 5.

The Board of Works vote on the restricted parking sign was 4 to 1 with Jeff Houin voting against.  Houin said he was concerned that they are opening the door to requests from other businesses.

During department reports, Police Chief Dave Bacon asked the board to select a date to interview three candidates for the one patrol position open in the department.  The opening was created when Leo Mangus retired.  The interviews will be conducted on Monday, January 28th after the regular city meetings.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt was given approval to seek quotes for the 3500 Series 1 ton truck chassis which is in his 2019 budget.
