Plymouth High School English teacher Amanda Knox and the 19 students who are part of this year’s SEED club have been busy preparing for the club’s annual Give Back for Christmas since the new school year started back in August.
This is the sixth year the SEED club has adopted a Plymouth family for Christmas through the Marshall County Neighborhood Center, but the first year Knox has been the SEED club sponsor. The acronym SEED stands for Students Engaged in Environmental Development. Each year the Marshall County Neighborhood Center pairs the PHS SEED club with a local family in need of assistance during the holiday season.
Knox said, “After getting the list of wants and needs of our family, the SEED club members shopped for goods. Some members even donated money and items on their own! I consider it a blessing to be part of a group who is so generous and thoughtful!”
During the student’s advisory period on Friday, SEED club members spent the 25 minutes wrapping the gifts for the Plymouth family. PHS SEED club members were able to meet the family briefly Monday morning, as they helped load the gifts and food into a vehicle for the family at the front of Plymouth High School around 9 a.m. The family has four children; two girls ages 15 and 14, and two boys ages 5, and 4-years-old. This year, the students raised close to $300 holding various fundraisers throughout the school year.
Knox said, “Our Seed club members went beyond my expectations! Students spent their own time outside of school to help make this service project not only a success but to be a blessing to each individual on the list! For those who were present at the time of donation, there was no doubt that the family was moved and so thankful for this act of kindness and Christmas cheer.”
