local News_2During last week’s Redevelopment Commission meeting, Jerry Chavez, president and CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation updated members on the River Gate South Development Project.

He said the building project is moving forward and the building closest to Michigan Street is nearing completion.  Chavez said the developer, Scott Savin isn’t pushing to get the building occupied because of the tight constraints on the property.  He said people don’t want to live in the middle of a construction site.   Chavez noted that a hard push will come in the early spring and at the current time 8 of the apartments have been rented.

Updating on other projects, Chavez said the base coat of asphalt has been laid on the parking area of the Early Learning Child Care Center, a little ahead of schedule.  The roof is complete on the building and the facility is enclosed with doors, windows and walls.  The ceiling and drywall is in process and mechanical duct work is in place and sidewalks around the building have been poured.

The Aquatic Center has half of the walls up and Chavez said they are hoping Mother Nature will work with them to keep the project moving forward.  He said once they get the walls up the trusses for the roof will go on.  They won’t excavate for the pool until the roof is on.

The Redevelopment Commission also approved the annual disbursement to the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation in the amount of $30,000.    It was noted by the Clerk Treasurer that in 2015 they gave $15,000 and in 2016 and 2017 it was increased to $30,000.
