Supportive Housing varianceThe Marshall County Drainage Board approved a variance for Garden Court for their permanent supportive housing project that will be built on West Jefferson Street.

Brent Martin told members the location for the parking lot and dumpster area needs to sit in the county’s 50 foot easement of the open ditch on the west side of the property.

The drainage board had some concern since work on the ditch can only be from the east side since the ditch bank on the west side is much higher and steeper.  The board told Martin that they would not be responsible for any damage to the parking lot or dumpster area if there is ever a need to work on the ditch.

Drainage Board member Kevin Overmyer asked the surveyor about the current condition of the ditch, thinking the board may want to look at a maintenance project on the ditch prior to the parking lot being installed.

Martin was asked about a time frame for the building project.  He said the final piece of the financing was put in place last week so construction will begin in the spring of 2019.  He also said the parking lot will be one of the last portions of the project to be completed, last next year.

The Drainage Board unanimously approved the variance request.
