LionsClub_Jud RouchJud Rouch, 2018-2019 governor of the Indian District of Kiwanis was on hand at the last meeting of the Plymouth Lions Club.  Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

Kiwanis members dedicate more that 28 million volunteer hours and invest more that $107 million dollars annually in projects that strengthen communities and serve children.  They help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged and care for the sick.  They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, and raise funds for pediatric research and much more.  They believe that helping a child helps the world.

Ideas were exchanged for interesting fundraisers for both organizations.  When we all work together, we can make a greater difference in the lives of our friends and fellow members of the community.

Operation KidSight has begun a new year.  It is an Indiana Lions program to prevent early problems from Amblopia (Lazy Eye) which if not corrected before the child’s eye is fully developed may never be completely corrected without surgery.  The age will vary, but six is considered the outside age when the eye is considered fully developed.  If found early enough, Amblopia may be corrected with eyeglasses.  There is no charge for the screening program and the Lions will provide a child with glasses if the parents cannot afford the cost of glasses.  Plymouth Lions, in cooperation with all the Lions Clubs of Marshall County, work to screen every child in this county.  Lions from Bremen, Argos, Bourbon, and Culver,

As of June 30, 2018, Lions have screened 400 children and have scheduled 50 children in various child care centers through the county.

A letter was read which was written to the Plymouth Lions Club and President Doug Feece from Lions Club International congratulating him on growing the club during the centennial celebration.  It thanked him for his efforts which will allow the Lions Club the ability to serve more people in our next century of service.

Lions are about providing service but we are only as strong as those who so willingly join us in providing this service.  If you are interested in this program or any program sponsored by the Lions Club please contact any Lions Club member.
