Canoe Launch 9-25-18_1The City of Plymouth and the Park Department are working hard to meet the local match requirement to obtain an $11,000 grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to build a handicap assessable canoe/kayak launch in River Park Square.  The grant is a 50/50 match so local donors must give $11,000 for the city to meet the threshold to obtain the grant.

The lunch will be built near the new pedestrian bridge and will offer people of all abilities to take park in exciting river-based activities on the Yellow River.

On Tuesday morning, the city announced the wonderful news of an additional local match to every donation made up to $3,000.

Mr. John J. Oliver from US Granules and David Fortin from the law office of Stevens, Travis and Fortin have joined forces to offer a match of up to $3,000 for the kayak launch.

Allie Shook from the Plymouth Park Department said, “Your donation will essentially be tripled.  You give $25, and the local match from Oliver and Fortin will give $25 and they city will get $25 from the IHCDA when the city meets the target goal of $11,000.

There are just 23 days remaining in the campaign that began on September 25th and will close at the end of the day on November 9th.  This is an all-or-nothing grant so if the campaign is not successful in meeting the $11,000 match the IHCDA goes away.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday night there have been 78 patrons who have donated $4,760 towards the match.  The project is almost half way to the goal and about half of the campaign time is left.

Shook said it doesn’t matter what size donation you make…the IHCDA just wants to see the community buy-in to the project.  Donations can be dropped off in the Centennial Park office or you can donate on line at https://www.patronicity.com/TheLaunch.

The City of Plymouth and the Park Department send out a huge thank you to Mr. Oliver and Mr. Fortin for believing in this project and helping to get more community involvement in the local matching fund process.
