David's CourageThis week members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety considered the request of Greg Erickson from David’s Courage, 10924 Lincoln Highway for a waiver or reduction of a deposit fee since they are a non-profit organization.  He said they just acquired the property about three weeks ago from the county and would like to get the utilities turned over in the name of David’s Courage.

Erickson told the board he felt the deposit was substantial and when asked said it was $680.  Clerk Treasurer Jeanine Xaver said the actual deposit fee will be $830.  She said the deposit would be applied to the final utility bill.

Utility superintendent, Donnie Davidson told the Board the deposit is based on one and a half times the highest water usage, in this case it’s a sewer bill.  He also noted this David’s Courage is in the county and sending their sewage to the city for treatment.  They own and maintain their own lift station and the forced main used to bring the sewage into the city.  He said, if there was ever a time they got delinquent on the billing there is no way to shut them off.

City Council member, Randy Lonanecker said he has done service work on the lift station over the years and has seen a lot of ground water issues with it.

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a reduction of the deposit fee to $500 by a 4 to 1 vote with Mayor Senter voting no.

David’s Courage is a not-for-profit drug and alcohol rehabilitation sober living home that will provide therapy and life skills with the 12 step program.  The home can house 23 men and 23 women who will be required to secure a job, attend bible studies, provide community service and keep busy from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Erickson noted that some will be placed in the home through the court system but many will be self committed. They are hoping to be in the facility by December of this year or during the first  quarter of 2019.
